Peat moss is probably the easy worm bedding to get . * Peat moss needs to be soaked at least 24 hrs. before it will be ready for your worms. I like to soak mind for 48 hrs. mixing it occasionally to make sure it is throughly soak. * Test the moisture of your peat moss by taking a hand full and squeezing it in your fist. You should 1 to 2 drops of water between your fingers. If the water runs out of you fist its to wet. Add some dry peat moss and mix it in to get the right moisture. * Temperature is a very important factor in raising red worms. Keep them between 68 and 78 degrees for peak production. * Here are some more bedding materials you can use : cardboard, newspaper, shredded paper, composted horse manure, composted rabbit manure. Make sure your manures are well composted to keep from heating and killing your worms. * Feed : You can top feed the manures above without composting. Top feed chicken laying pellets or any grain feed. Don't mix it in you bedding it will heat up and possibly kill you worms. Kitchen scraps avoid meats and greases. |
